Hello! My name is Cory, and I am The Magic Artist.
So who am I?
I’m an artist, graphic designer, and educator who would like to try my hand at becoming a freelance artist, mainly creating artwork for Magic the Gathering.
I started playing Magic during Revised at the age of 11 after some friends demonstrated how to play the game. The game spoke to me in a way no other game has done since. Not only was the game more complex than Chess (a game my grandfather had taught me how to play earlier that same year), but, it also had amazing art. I became hooked, playing until Mirage, where I played off and on until Onslaught block. I finally returned to the game during Shadowmoor block and haven’t left since. Now I mainly curate my power cube, which I play with a great group of friends weekends we are free.
When I am not teaching you can find me creating. I love to draw, illustrate, and paint, develop/ design storybook, video game, and app concepts, and promote the sport of competitive jump rope (yes it is a sport). You can view some of my artwork by clicking this link, or clicking the Artwork link on The Magic Artist’s main menu. Artwork I create for The Magic Artist will be added to the Artwork page after it has been completed.
What content can you expect on The Magic Artist?
Every Monday and Friday an episode of “It’s Never too Late” will be released on Youtube. My show will document and share all of the steps I take on my journey as I try to reach my goal of becoming a freelance artist creating art specifically for Magic the Gathering.
Every last Tuesday of a month an episode of “Token Tuesday’s” will be released. On the episode I will reveal a new Magic token that I have created, and then ask for all of you to share what token you would like for me to create next. Patreons can receive the tokens that are revealed on Token Tuesdays by joining The Magic Artist’s Patreon page.
On episodes of It’s Never too Late, this website, and on The Magic Artist’s social media pages these will also be shared:
I will share books and articles that I feel have helpful information for artists who would like to hone their skills.
I will highlight, spotlight, and hopefully interview past and current Magic artists.
I will share time lapses of my artwork with commentary by myself, and, with reviews by other Magic artists too.
This is all new for me so if there is something you want me to share or highlight with you on my platform, please feel free to let me know and if it’s something I feel comfortable addressing I will gladly add that to an article I post here, and/or in an episode of It’s Never too Late.
I can’t do this alone and will need your help and support to reach my goal.
You can join and support me by subscribing to my Youtube channel
